Automotive Glass for Cars — Duratuf Glass
Car glass doesn’t get much attention until something goes wrong with it — a stone chip that slowly turns into a crack, a side window that won’t roll up properly after an accident, or a windshield that distorts the view just enough to be annoying on a long drive. At that point, the quality of the replacement glass matters a lot more than most people expect.
Duratuf Glass manufactures automotive glass for cars, including windshields, side windows, and rear windscreens, supplying dealers, workshops, and glass retailers across India. We produce both laminated and toughened glass to match the specifications used in passenger cars, with consistent quality across every batch.
What Goes Into Automotive Glass for Cars
Car glass isn’t a single product — different parts of the car use different types of glass, built for different jobs.
For body builders working on volume orders, this translates directly into fewer hours spent on window assembly and fewer rework cycles caused by uneven fitment.
Windshields (Laminated Glass)
The front windshield on almost every car is laminated glass, made from two layers of glass bonded with a PVB interlayer. If the windshield is hit by a stone or involved in an impact, it cracks but the layers stay bonded together, instead of shattering into the cabin. This keeps the windshield largely in place and reduces the risk of sharp glass reaching the driver or front passenger.
Side Windows and Rear Windscreens (Toughened Glass)
Side windows and, in most cars, the rear windscreen use toughened glass. This glass is heat-treated to be considerably stronger than standard glass and, if it does break, it breaks into small, blunt pieces rather than long shards. This is also why toughened glass can be rolled down, removed, or broken in an emergency without leaving large dangerous fragments behind.
Why the Difference Matters for Replacement
When a car needs a glass replacement, getting the right type matters as much as getting the right size. A windshield needs to be laminated for safety reasons, while a side window or rear screen needs to be properly toughened so it behaves correctly if it’s ever broken. Mismatched glass — wrong type, wrong thickness, or a poor edge finish — can lead to fitting issues, wind noise, or reduced safety performance.
